Universal Flux Rules (UFR) & Design Guide

Welcome to the official itch.io page for the Universal Flux Rules (UFR) framework! Whether you are a Game Master looking for a lightweight system to generate dynamic, non-linear environments or a creator eager to design compatible flux modules, everything you need is right here.

What is the Universal Flux Rules (UFR)?

The Universal Flux Rules (UFR) is a lightweight, system-neutral, MOSAIC-strict ruleset engineered to run vast, non-linear, and homogeneous spaces seamlessly at your table. It introduces a clean core gameplay loop and robust mechanics for dynamic location discovery without heavy overhead.

  • Core Gameplay Loop: Declare Action → Resolve Event → Discover Location.
  • Core Actions: Navigate using standard procedures—Chart, Seek, Recover, and Peregrinate.
  • Structured Discovery: Utilizes modular event and location tables to explore imagined places.
  • Licensing & Compatibility: Released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY 4.0) license. You are free to adapt, share, and build upon the UFR core rules for personal or commercial projects. Includes access to the official "Universal Flux Rules" compatibility badge for display on your own releases!

About

The Universal Flux Rules are based on and developed from Nick LS Whelan’s (Papers & Pencils) 2023 blog post, Flux Space. The UFR project seeks to make those ideas more readily accessible to busy GMs.
